How to benefit from self-help information
Just getting information will no more fix your relationship than reading a cookbook will fill your stomach. Learn to value what you learn according to how much you apply. If you are not applying anything, then the material is useless for you regardless of how well written it is.
Here is a method for learning to benefit from what you learn:
- Write out any good ideas you find on separate pieces of paper. Also put the date on the paper.
- Put the papers in an envelope or box labeled "good ideas".
- When you apply an idea in your life, put the paper in an envelope or box marked "useful".
- Once a month, go through the box or envelope. For every idea that is a month old or older, put it in the trash.
- If your good ideas envelope or box stays empty, you will need to either get help or give up. But don't give up!
TV and the internet have trained us to be consumers of information rather than users of information. To become successful in any endeavor, including relationships, you need to take effective actions, repeatedly until you get what you want. This is what a relationship coach can help you do.
I've got a lot more for you
There are more than 300 relationship help articles at my relationship coach blog. Although not as detailed as the relationship lessons you will receive when you download the eBook, they address many different relationship topics. The site is searchable, and you can see what others are looking at. You will also find more answers to your questions about coaching and relationships on this site. If you would like to learn more personal information about me, you can also read an Interview with Relationship Coach and Psychologist Jack Ito PhD. And, I invite you to send me an email. Every relationship requires someone to make the first move. I have made mine.
